I'm 26!

I had a happy 26th birthday this past week.  How lucky am I to be born on the day of pink, chocolate, flowers, and love?  My day was filled with it all!  And now I'm closer to 30 than 20- YIKES!

Andrew got me balloons and beautiful flowers as well as some sweet cards for my birthday, Valentines Day, and one from Jake.  He also picked out a coral scarf for me- how sweet!  I also got a few more cards in the mail- I love having a day that makes me feel special and loved like that!

Andrew busy days are Thursdays this semester.  He leaves for school around 7:30 am and doesn’t get home until after 8 pm.  I was sad when I realized my birthday fell on his hectic day, but he figured out a way to get the afternoon off by switching things around and working a little more the day before.  He came home around lunchtime and all 3 of us went to lunch at Applebee’s.  I’ve been craving a specific dish from there lately (chicken fajita roll-up), and it definitely hit the spot!

After that we came home and made chocolate covered strawberries and clementines-  SO much better than cake and ice cream!

I got to talk on the phone to some friends and family and spent the least amount of time working as possible.  It was a great birthday and I’m looking forward to 26- I’m sure it’ll be the best year yet!

Sick :(

This has been a miserable week in the Olsen house!  Our poor little man came down with the flu on Tuesday, and by Thursday I was barfing with him.  And Friday night Andrew joined our sick and miserable club.  We're quite the pathetic bunch.  We've pretty much been moving from our beds to the couch and back with our "barf pot" in tote, and we've watched a lot of Netflix kids shows.

Jake, who rarely sits still for more than a minute, hardly let us put him down.  He beat his record of watching like 20 minutes of TV at a time by a long shot.  I don't think we really even put him down yesterday.  The poor little guy definitely got it the worst! And let me tell you, cleaning up puke when you're sick is the absolute worst.  And he got it in some hard to clean places.  We finally got the smell up out of the carpet and couch.  It smells a little like vinegar, but at least it's not vomit.  So gross!

Andrew braved the grocery store Saturday morning for some Gatorade, applesauce, and a loaf of bread for toast.  And that's about all we've consumed since.   Poor Jake wasn't able to keep ANY food down from Thursday dinner until today.  We have been giving him really small amounts of applesauce every hour or two and as much liquid as he will take in an attempt to not let him get dehydrated.  It didn't work perfect, but at least we didn't have to take him to the hospital.  And this afternoon he held down some toast, pudding, and a few bites of bagel.  We're definitely on the 'up' side of things.

Being sick is the worst!  I HATE having the flu.  And I am not convinced at all that the flu shot is helpful!  I've had 3 flu shots in the last 10 or 12 years, and those are the exact same 3 years that I've had the flu.  Andrew and Jake both had their flu shots this year as well.  I know it's just a coincidence, but I feel like the flu shot is a curse for our little family!

At least we had a relaxing few days together watching movies and snuggling with our little sweetie.  And there's nothing that says "romance" like sleeping with a pot between you!

Super Bowl Weekend

We spent last weekend in Wadsworth with my family watching the Super Bowl, but mostly because Andrew had an interview for an internship up that direction.  The Super Bowl didn't end how we had hoped, but the interview went well and he was offered the position on Friday.  I'm not sure he'll take it or not, but it's at least a great option!

While we were there, Jake had fun playing with his grandparents.  The only not-so-fun part was his first (and hopefully last) trip down the stairs!  I was working in the dining room and my parents and Andrew were chatting in the family room when all of a sudden we heard *thud thud thud thud waahhh thud thud thud* and then a whole lot of crying.  As soon as I heard the first *thud* I knew exactly what was happening and my heart stopped!  Apparently the dogs had pushed the toy chest out of the way that had been blocking the steps.  I'm not sure how far up he was when he fell, but AT LEAST half way, my guess was he made it to the top and was starting back down again like he always tries to do.

I was so scared when I picked him up that there'd be blood or broken bones, but I think he was more scared than anything.  He had a little bruise and rug burn on his nose, but other than that, he walked away unscathed.  What a blessing!  I pray every day that he's safe and protected, and I KNOW that those prayers were answered as he went tumbling down the stairs!

Luckily he was back to his jolly old self in a few minutes, and within the hour he was climbing the stairs again.  I'm glad we don't have any in our apartment! I'm also glad he hasn't figured out climbing anything else yet.  He hasn't even attempted any bookshelves, getting out of his crib, or even furniture.  Thank goodness!  And knock on wood.

Jake is walking around now like it's nothing.  In fact,  I rarely catch him crawling anymore.  He's still not that great at standing up unassisted, so usually when he's crawling, it's to get to a wall or some sort of aid to help him get back on his feet.  I can't believe a year ago he couldn't even roll over.  So much has happened in such a short time!

Jake enjoyed having two dogs for the weekend, and all 3 boys spent some time looking out the windows.  It's nice to have a different view than he's used to.

We all had a nice weekend together eating way too much good food and enjoying each other's company, and I'm so glad Jake's fall down the stairs ended as well as it did!

Grandma Weekend

Last weekend my mom came to stay with us.  She came Friday evening, and Andrew and I went on a date, without Jake!  We love him to death, but it was so much fun to have some time to the two of us.  And I'm certain Jake had the time of his life having Grandma Jensen to himself.

We spent Saturday hanging out with my mom, then she took off to spend the evening with Kim and Darrell in Beaver Creek.  We went to a Statistics party put on by one of Andrew's classmates, then stopped for Frozen Yogurt on the way home.  Jake loves going there because he gets (by demand) lots of bites from both me and Andrew.  He also gets attention from other people there, which he eats up.

Sunday after church, we went down to Beaver Creek also for dinner at Kim and Darrell's, which was excellent like usual.  Jake showed off his new walking skills and got to eat dinner at the table, fasted into the seat by the belt right off of Darrell's pants (he gets the Uncle of the year award).

It was a fun, family-filled weekend!
